Synopsis
Sinopsis
While filming a promotional piece for a feature about the tragic fire at the foreign restaurant where she once worked, Ayu, the Javanese waitress whose story the film is based on, struggles to deliver a performance that pleases everyone. Caught between a sensation-seeking producer, a boyfriend who questions her ethical responsibility, and Susan, the Indo-Dutch actress playing her with “empathy,” Ayu strives to maintain a “civilized” image amid the mounting pressure surrounding her.

Kurnia Alexander
From his childhood habit of renting VCDs, Kurnia Alexander knew early on that he wanted to become a filmmaker and dedicate his life to that dream. His films have been screened at various local and international festivals, including Closeting (Jogja-NETPAC Asian Film Festival, The Bangalore Queer Film Festival, Best Short Film nomination at Piala Maya), In the Words of Firman (Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia, Madrid 29th LGBTI+ Film Festival, Jogja-NETPAC Asian Film Festival), and Unconditional (100% Manusia Film Festival, Sewon Screening). Through his works, Kurnia seeks to portray the struggles of queer and other marginalized communities in Indonesia, highlighting their humanity.
