Synopsis
Sinopsis
Elementary school boy Yang-Yang lives what seems like a picture-perfect life in Taipei with his father NJ, who runs a computer company, his mother Min-Min, his older sister, and his grandmother, all together in their middle-class apartment. However, after the wedding of Min-Min’s younger brother, the family’s harmony begins to unravel. The grandmother suffers a stroke and is hospitalized. NJ has an unexpected encounter with his first love that stirs his heart, while Min-Min is drawn into a new religious movement… Meanwhile, in an effort to revive his struggling business, NJ travels to Japan to sign a contract with the brilliant game designer Ota.

Edward Yang
Edward Yang was one of the most acclaimed directors, celebrated worldwide for his profound influence on cinema. His debut as screenwriter, The Winter of 1905, screened at Cannes. His first feature, That Day – On the Beach, won major awards in Taipei and Houston. He went on to make landmark films including Taipei Story (Locarno FIPRESCI Prize), The Terrorizers (Cannes, Locarno), A Brighter Summer Day (Tokyo Grand Jury and FIPRESCI Prizes), A Confucian Confusion (Cannes), and Mahjong (Berlin Special Jury Prize). His final film was Yi Yi, before his passing in 2007.
