Synopsis
Sinopsis
Divorced and lonely, Tokyo salaryman Yoji finds purpose after meeting Minerva, a Filipina caregiver. When his neighbor dies alone, Yoji decides to follow Minerva to the Philippines, fearing the same fate. There, he meets Angel, Minerva’s estranged daughter, who faces her own struggles amid Manila’s harsh realities. Immersed in the chaos of a new city, Yoji rediscovers connection, vitality, and the will to live—choosing life’s uncertainty over the silent isolation of kodokushi.

Janus Victoria
Janus Victoria is a writer and director born and based in Manila. A long-time media practitioner, she produces current affairs documentaries for Philippine broadcasting and digital platforms. Her films explore the relationships between people and places. She has completed six short features, including “Myth of Manila,” and a documentary, Encounters with Silence, about the lonely deaths in apartments in Tokyo. Diamonds in the Sand is her first feature film.
