Community Presentation IV: Communalism in Sulawesi Film Communities: Change Doesn’t Require Uniformity, Development Doesn’t Require Synchronicity
Just like other islands in Indonesia, Sulawesi possesses a rich culture and social development that can serve as the necessary formative elements within the cross-ecosystem of filmmaking in Indonesia. However, it must be acknowledged: the development of the film ecosystem in Sulawesi has not fully materialized. The six provinces each have their own perspective and challenges regarding how to build and sustain a cross-ecosystem community film movement. This raises several key questions: Is it necessary for development and progress to be experienced evenly by all six provinces? Should inclusiveness be the main achievement that each province needs to attain? Or is there actually an aspect that needs to be addressed and initiated so that filmmaking on Sulawesi island can truly become, as it should be, a genuine Film Ecosystem?
