Community Forum JAFF: We Are Here, and Always Will Be!

Community Forum (CF) JAFF has been a vital part of the Nusantara filmmaking community’s growth since 2006. More than an annual event, it has built enduring relationships and connections for two decades, surviving the pandemic and adapting to changes. CF JAFF remains dedicated to supporting film communities and explores its 20-year journey to assert that film communities deserve to be the primary pillar of the Nusantara film ecosystem.

Bambang "Ipoenk" K.M

Community Forum JAFF 2006

Starting video production in 2001, Ipoenk launched a personal video project called "videorobber" focusing on diverse visual works. This led to establishing the film community turned Production House, Lajar Tantjap Film, in 2002. Notable works include the feature film Aum! (2021), the series Klub Kecanduan Mantan (2022) and The Aces (2023), and a film currently nearing completion.

Arief Akhmad Yani, or Yani, born in Malang on September 15, 1979, has been active in Indonesian filmmaking since 2003. He works as a freelancer in various audio-visual media productions and film festivals across Indonesia. Currently, he manages the Community Forum for the Jogja-NETPAC Asian Film Festival.

Hong Kong Filmmakers in Community Forum JAFF 20

Star Nimbrung is a casual fireside chat designed for JAFF Community Forum (CF JAFF) participants to meet prominent film figures. This year, Star Nimbrung collaborates with the Asian Film Awards Academy (AFAA) to host Southeast Asian filmmakers , aiming to create an inclusive space for idea exchange and fostering collaboration between Asian filmmakers and Indonesian film communities.

Man Lim Chung is a renowned Hong Kong production and art designer who began his film career in 1991. He won his first Hong Kong Film Award in 1999 for Tempting Heart. A close collaborator of Ann Hui, he made his directorial debut in 2020 with the documentary Keep Rolling.

Mandrew Kwan

Director

Mandrew Kwan is a Hong Kong-based filmmaker and lecturer, active as a director, screenwriter, and producer since graduating from HKAPA in 2009 with a BFA in directing. He is known for narrative works like The Remnant, inspired by his documentary experiences on urban redevelopment housing disputes. His films, selected for prestigious festivals, include Coffee or Tea (2008), and he currently serves as a full-time lecturer at HKAPA while maintaining his creative industry practice.

Quist Tsang

Quist Tsang

Visual Artist

Quist Tsang is an emerging Hong Kong visual artist working in photography, videography, and digital design. She received the 17th Hong Kong Arts Development Award for Young Artist (Film) in 2023. Since 2011, she has worked as a still photographer and poster designer on major films such as Sons of the Neon Night and Donnie Yen’s Raging Fire.

Ivan Cheung

Ivan Cheung

Director

Ivan Cheung is a promising emerging filmmaker pursuing an M.A. in Directing at Taipei National University of the Arts. With a background in documentary cinematography and commercial advertising, his notable works include Red Fence and Rancid Cargo (2023). Cheung gained extensive production and on-set experience while studying film and TV production at Sheridan.

Community Forum Discussion: Pijat Singkat REBORN

Retrospeksi 20 Tahun: Kami, Jogja Kita

The Pijat Singkat (Pikiran Jadi Kuat, Sinema Meningkat) program is a CF JAFF discussion forum for reflecting on film community movements. Coinciding with JAFF’s 20th anniversary, this year’s theme is “Retrospeksi 20 Tahun: Kami, Jogja Kita,” echoing the 2006 program initiated by curator Tomy Taslim. This program, born from the communal spirit of the Jogja film community, is a platform to evaluate if local and national film communities still uphold that same communal spirit two decades later.

PINK-PONK COMPETITION


Ping pong is beloved by all segments of society, from children to seniors, actors to activists. This high enthusiasm is proven by numerous inter-regional competitions. Recognizing this interest, the JAFF Community Forum launched the Pink-Ponk competition in 2016. The program aims to celebrate JAFF and serves as a fresh recreational space amid the film ecosystem’s main focus. This inclusive competition is open to all visitors regardless of background, often seeing famous directors, musicians, and actors participate, fostering a unique and friendly atmosphere.
