Synopsis
Sinopsis

Anaktana tells the story of a mute boy who can communicate with nature. When a palm oil company faces the mysterious disappearance of its workers in the forest, they force his mother to make him help them. Along with her, Paulus (the foreman), and two workers, they journey deep into the woods. There, they uncover dark secrets about human greed and nature’s vengeance.

Theo Rumansara is a filmmaker from Papua, known for his debut work “Orpa,” which was screened at various national and international film festivals. After nearly two years away from the film industry, Theo returns with a story that is deeper, more introspective, and more spiritual. “Anaktana” is his journey back to his roots, both personally and cinematically.

Richard Suwae

Richard Suwae is a filmmaker from Papua who focuses on realist dramas that explore social, cultural, and humanitarian issues within Papuan society. Through his short film “Banyu,” made during his studies in Yogyakarta, he highlights the issue of violence against women and calls on society to respect women’s dignity. Richard also holds a strong commitment to advocating for the rights of Papuan people and protecting the forest as an essential part of Indigenous identity and life. For him, film is a tool to speak the truth and inspire positive change.
