Synopsis
Sinopsis

For 52 years, Numakage, a massive public pool complex in suburban Tokyo, served as a sanctuary for the elderly, children, and gay men alike. Now, with its demolition imminent, the film explores the collective grief felt by the community-grief usually reserved for the death of humans.

Shingo OTA

Shingo Ota (b. 1985, Nagano) studied philosophy and narratology at Waseda University. His debut feature documentary, The End of the Special Time We Were Allowed (2013), screened at Yamagata IDFF and was distributed in 12 countries. At Kinosaki won the Excellence Award at Yubari 2022. His hybrid stage work, The Last Geishas, will premiere at the Festival d’Automne 2024. His latest documentary, Numakage Public Pool (2025), won the First Cut+ WIP Award at the Karlovy Vary 2024 festival and premiered in Asia at the Busan 2025 festival.
