Production Culture Research

Production culture studies examine the social, cultural, and economic factors that influence how media is produced. Several issues are being investigated, including work practices, industry power dynamics, workplace norms and identities, innovation and technology, and collaboration. Locality, globalization, and policy context are all relevant. The study specifically looks at the film industry’s culture, values, practices, and power dynamics to better comprehend the differences between production processes and content. This program intends to offer researchers and students with film major to gainknowledge and skills necessary to conduct research on film production culture.

Dyna Herlina

Dyna Herlina Suwarto, PhD is a Lecturer in Communication Science at Yogyakarta State University. She is an alumnus of the University of Nottingham, UK. Besides teaching on campus, she facilitates various film activities such as academic script writing, policy research, workshop facilitator, jury, curator, and film archive consultant. She wrote several books, including ‘Crisis and Paradox of Indonesian Film’ (2013), ‘Mapping Yogyakarta Filmmakers’ (2015), ‘Watching the Audience: Cinema Film Audiences in Three Cities’ (2019). Her scientific articles in media studies are published in various reputable international and national journals. She is also the co-founder of the Jogja Netpac Asian Film Festival (JAFF) and Indonesian Film Studies (KAFEIN). She can be contacted via email at [email protected].

Tito Imanda

Tito Imanda

Tito Imanda is an anthropologist and filmmaker. His practical PhD thesis is about collaborative filmmaking with a wayang orang group at the slope of Mount Merapi, exploring new ways of visual storytelling. His master thesis is about the political economy of the Indonesian film industry. His undergraduate thesis about Indonesian animators. In 2008-2013 he developed and managed a film school at a private university in Jakarta. In 2017-2021 he serves at the Indonesian Film Board (BPI), as the Head of Research and Development.
