A rotating collaboration by six Thai writer/directors, Fan Chan is by premise a collective memory of upcountry working-class Thai childhood, as recalled by six filmmakers of about the same age. The generational ensemble concept has been taken one step further up the creative ladder, and what results is a soft-pedal pastiche of childhood life that is arguably absent of innovation, surprise, social commentary, film style, or any real meaning.
