WHAT’S ON DAY 2: From JAFF Kids, Award-Winning Animation, to the Sneak Peek of Four Seasons in Java

Get ready for a lively second day of JAFF20. Fresh stories, energetic screenings, and exciting non-screening programs available for you to enjoy. Here are some of the highlights you won’t want to miss.

JAFF KIDS: SCREENING & NON-SCREENING PROGRAMS

One of the festival’s favorite regular program returns this year is JAFF Kids. JAFF believes that children, too, deserve the opportunity to experience the magic of cinema in a theater setting. This program features a compilation of age-appropriate, imaginative, and inspiring 3 short films, inviting young audiences to embark on sweet, funny, and heartwarming adventures. The lineup includes:

Bridge – My Little Friends.

The journey of Jin, a loyal cat determined to cheer up Mugi, who is grieving the loss of her beloved dog. With the help of a dove and a squirrel, Jin is set on taking Mugi to the “Rainbow Bridge.” Directed by Kazuyuki Ishihara of StudioGOONEYS.

Cone.

A story about Minwoo, a 7-year-old boy taking on a “Reduce Waste” challenge from his favorite TV show. His innocent efforts open our eyes to society’s indifference toward environmental issues and invites us to reflect on their own responsibility. This is the first short film by Ji-In Yoo, who has long been involved in Korea’s independent film scene as a producer and assistant director.

Goldfish.

Two siblings in Kuala Lumpur must secretly care for a goldfish, with no money and without their mother knowing. A lively yet touching adventure by director Esslam Hasona.

Also in the JAFF Kids section, the non-screening program Animator Cilik Stop Motion Workshop offers a hands-on creative experience. Led by Alfi Zachkyelle from Kampoong Monster, children will learn to animate everyday objects. From toys to household items, starting from story creation to frame-by-frame photography, resulting in a 5–15 second mini film.

HONG KONG FILM GALA PRESENTATION

On Day 2, JAFF’s collaboration with the Asian Film Awards Academy (AFAA) features two standout films:

Another World.

Winner of Best Animated Feature at the 2025 Golden Horse Awards. Directed by Tommy Kai Chung Ng, this visually stunning film transports audiences to a realm between death and reincarnation. It follows Gudo and Yuri as they confront emotions, curses, and forgiveness.

The Remnant.

A calm yet gripping drama from director Kwan Man Hin. The film follows Tai, a former gangster seeking a quiet life through his small laundry business. Until new threats in the neighborhood force him to face unsettling realities once again.

SNEAK PEEK: FOUR SEASONS IN JAVA (EMPAT MUSIM PERTIWI)

One of the most anticipated events of the day. Last year, this program showcased Jumbo and Qodrat 2, both of which went on to become box office hits. This year, the Sneak Peek returns with the latest film from award-winning Indonesian female director, Kamila Andini: Four Seasons in Java (Empat Musim Pertiwi).

The film follows a woman who returns to her village after being released from prison, rebuilding her life while rediscovering the meaning of home and family. Starring Piala Citra Indonesian Film Festival winners, Putri Marino and Christine Hakim, alongside Arya Saloka and Hana Malasan, the first-ever preview of scene clips from this film is undoubtedly one of the biggest draws of JAFF20.

There’s plenty more to explore on Day 2 of JAFF20, both on and off the screen. Full details of JAFF20 program and ticketing information is available at jaff-filmfest.org and @jaffjogja
