Discover What’s on for Day Seven of JAFF 19

JAFF 19 is nearing its final day, and you won’t want to miss the exciting programs lined up for December 6, 2024!

Among the highlights is the exclusive Masterclass session featuring Tsai Ming Liang, a celebrated Taiwanese filmmaker known for his unique cinematic style and deep exploration of themes such as alienation, isolation, and the passage of time. This inspiring program is designed for emerging filmmakers, students, and film enthusiasts and offers invaluable insights into the creative process of one of Asia’s most influential directors. Join us at 12:00 PM WIB at Epicentrum XXI Studio 1 for this exceptional opportunity.

In the afternoon, we will showcase three remarkable films from India, each bringing its distinct narrative across various genres. Kicking things off is Sunday Special, a touching yet satirical family dramedy directed by Abhilash Shetty, which follows Sneha, an 11-year-old girl, as she embarks on a journey to understand love, family, and her identity. Following this, we will screen A Match, and Three Sons of Narayani, both feature debuts from talented Indian directors. A Match, directed by Jayant Digambar Somalkar, recently clinched the NETPAC Award for Best Asian Film at the Toronto International Film Festival. Meanwhile, Three Sons of Narayani, by Sharan Venugopal, draws from the director’s fond memories of visiting his grandmother’s village.

Remember to catch some highly anticipated Indonesian films as well! Among them is Crocodile Tears, the debut feature by Tumpal Tampubolon, a two-time Citra Award winner for Best Original Screenplay at FFI 2014 and Best Short Film at FFI 2021. Also making its world premiere is Misteri Bilik Korek Api, a horror drama by Ludy Oji Prastama, who won the 2019 Maya Award for Best Short Film. With support from the JFA Film Incubator program, Ludy brought this film to life in 2024.
