JAFF 19 SCHEDULE HIGHLIGHT
Today’s Highlight, 1 December 2024
Here are some highlights on the second day of JAFF 19. Several Indonesian films which have received international acclaim and are among the standout presentations.
Tale of the Land, feature debut by director Loeloe Hendra, stars Shenina Cinnamon and Arswendy Bening Swara. Premiered at the 2024 Busan International Film Festival last October, this film will be screened today at 18:45 WIB in Empire XXI Studio 2, followed by a Q&A session with the director.
Smong, a full-length documentary by Tonny Trimarsanto, who has won two Citra Awards for Best Documentary Film (FFI 2017 for Bulu Mata and FFI 2024 for Under the Moonlight/Nur), delves into the healing journey of its two main characters following the devastating 2004 Aceh earthquake and tsunami. This documentary will be shown at 18:00 WIB today at Empire XXI Studio 4, featuring a Q&A with the director.
One of the most eagerly awaited romantic dramas, Cinta Tak Seindah Drama Korea (CTSDK), marks Meira Anastasia’s directorial debut. CTSDK serves as a heartfelt tribute from Meira to K-Drama fans. After the screening at 19:30 WIB today in Empire XXI Studio 1, there will be a Q&A session with the filmmakers and cast.
Additionally, don’t miss the engaging non-screening event today. The REEL LIFE Sharing Session will explore the production journey of Netflix Indonesia’s latest original film, The Shadow Strays, featuring insights from director Timo Tjahjanto and his team, whose film recently made it into Netflix’s Top 10 most-watched titles. This session is scheduled for 16:00 WIB today at Empire XXI Studio 3.
Later in the day, a launch ceremony for the Indonesiana TV app will be on the main stage at JAFF 19, located at Empire XXI.
Highlight for Tomorrow, 2 December 2024
In the non-screening program, several engaging topics will be presented through Public Lectures and Community Presentations. Tomorrow, 2 December 2024, at 9:00 WIB, three campus film communities—UKM-F Rumah Film KPI (Bandung), Himpunan Mahasiswa Film dan Televisi (HMFT UPI-Bandung), and Sinema Akhir Tahun—will come together at LPP Visioneri for a discussion. They will kick off the event by sharing their insights on the essential elements that shape the development of film communities in academic settings.
From 10:00 to 12:00 WIB at LPP Enthusiastic, producer Dipa Andika, screenwriter and director Bene Dion Radjagukguk, and director Muhadkly Acho will share their expertise in producing and crafting comedy genre films. They will reflect on their collaboration for Agak Laen, a horror-comedy that succeeded significantly in becoming Indonesia’s second-highest-grossing film and winning the Piala Antemas of FFI 2024.
Later, at 13:00 WIB in the same venue, Bene Dion will lead a special workshop on comedy screenwriting. This session will explore writing techniques, character development, and methods for crafting humorous scenes that resonate with audiences. Be sure to join in on the excitement!
