Synopsis

Sinopsis

A man with hair growing wildly over his body is taken by a mania of ecstasy and anguish. He struggles with the hair becoming a means of discipline and punishment against himself while being overwhelmed by the explosive jubilance of its sprouting. In this bizarre vision, overlaid 16mm and Super 8 film loop projections created with the filmmakers’ hair, clash in existential rage against discipline and the body in Singapore.

Biografi Sutradara

Mark Chua, Lam Li Shuen

Mark Chua and Lam Li Shuen are a filmmaker and artist duo from Singapore. They met through forming an art rock group and started out making lo-fi underground films as self-taught filmmakers. Over the years of their partnership, they have carved out a cinema of speculative fiction and body horror, exploring existential anxiety, histories and alienation.

Their feature in development, The Want, was selected for Berlinale Talents Script Station 2024, Full Circle Lab Philippines 2024, mylab+@Jogja 2023 and Talents Tokyo 2023. Their films have screened at festivals including the International Film Festival Rotterdam, New Directors/New Films and BFI London Film Festival.
