REEL LIFE FILM CAMP
A series of workshops & talent showcases presented by JAFF & NETFLIX for emerging talents that focus on one of these six specialized subjects of filmmaking: Production, Production Finance, Visual Effect, Post Production, Editing and Screenwriting.
The workshops are held in two phases: online workshop & offline workshop (there will be a selection for the offline workshop participants). The selected talents will have the opportunity to join the Talent Days showcase at JAFF Market.
Reel Life Film Camp continues to bridge the gap between training and industry readiness through On-the-Job Training (OTJ) placements in key roles such as Production, Finance, Post Production, and VFX. Reel Life Film Camp (RLFC) aims to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of how various elements of film production work together to create a compelling title. The program brings cross-border perspectives, technical expertise, and fosters regional collaboration, offering participants direct insights into both the creative and technical aspects of filmmaking
TIMELINE
- Open call: 1 – 25 August 2025

- Online workshop (via Zoom): 15 – 31 October 2025
- Announcement selected participants for offline workshop: early November (approximately after 7 November 2025)
- Offline workshop (Yogyakarta): 26 November – 28 November 2025
- Talent Day at JAFF Market (Jogja Expo Center): 29 November – 1 December 2025
RULES & REGULATIONS
- Open to Indonesian citizens only, minimum age 18.
- Participants must actively work or focus on the chosen field.
- Commitment to all workshop stages is required, including the offline workshop and showcase at JAFF Market for selected participants.
- Participants missing more than one session may be disqualified.
- All submitted documents must be in Bahasa Indonesia.
SCREENWRITER’S FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM
ABOUT THE FELLOWSHIP
The Screenwriters Fellowship Program is a one-year intensive writers’ workshop held by Soda Machine Films as part of Netflix’s Reel Life Program. It aims to foster new and upcoming Indonesian scriptwriters with very diverse and distinguished backgrounds to develop original stories in the form of first feature script films. The final goal is to have 2 projects being selected to be developed and produced as Netflix Originals.
FELLOWSHIP GOALS
- Beyond script development, the program aims to instill a deep sense of creative discipline, intellectual curiosity, and ethical authorship in each participating writer.
- With proper support and exposure throughout the fellowship, participants are expected to emerge with strong storytelling skills and a lifelong commitment to learning and continuous self-improvement.
- Fellows are encouraged to develop stories that are authentic in voice yet accessible and communicative to audiences.
- Equally important, they are expected to demonstrate integrity and accountability in their creative work, ensuring their output is artistically responsible and culturally resonant.

Soda Machine Films is debuting with A NORMAL WOMAN (2025) directed by Lucky Kuswandi, a Netflix Original Film. We are also presently engaged in the development of multiple feature films and series, inclusive of an upcoming Netflix series scheduled for release in 2026.

PROGRAM PHASES
Phase 1 – Application Process (Aug’25)
We’re launching our open submission process in August 2025, accepting applications through JAFF and Soda Machine Films social media. Interested participants will submit an application form and required materials. We will then select 30 participants to move forward to the next stage.
Phase 2 – Selection Process (Oct’25 – Nov’25)
The 30 participants will undergo online workshops on scriptwriting in October 2025 with the guidance from our workshop mentors and Netflix. The 30 selected participants will continue to rework on their pitch ideas, to be re-submitted for the next stage. We will then choose 6 final participants to undergo the fellowship program.
Phase 3 – Fellowship Program (Dec’25 – Aug’26)
The six selected participants will undergo an intensive fellowship program to write their first feature film scripts. At the end of the fellowship program, we will choose 2 most outstanding projects, which will ultimately lead to their production as Netflix Original content.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Applicants must be emerging writers, who possess a maximum of five years of writing experience within the film industry.
- Applicants must submit a film script (shorts / episodic) as their portfolio.
- Applicants must not have prior experience working on any Netflix projects as writers.
- Applicants must confirm their full availability to attend the 1 year program.
