Community = Academics & Practitioners: Which way to go?

This program aims to engage with the film communities in discussing the journey and development of the cinematography industry, highlighting the contributions of Satria “Anto” Kurnianto and Budi “Tobon” Arifianto to the camera department’s history in Yogyakarta. The evolution of the camera department is a significant aspect of Yogyakarta’s film ecosystem. This discussion forum will focus on the historical journey and participation of community elements in the camera department, examining the relationship between practitioners and academics. Together, we will explore the challenges faced by both sides in shaping and advancing the film industry.

Budi Dwi Arifianto, S.Sn, M.Sn is a distinguished academic and practitioner in communication, cinematography, and film in Indonesia. He serves as a lecturer at Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) and is also an Adjunct Professor at Sinema Films. His extensive experience spans various aspects of film, including cinematography, documentary filmmaking, and film studies.
