We applaud the success of the Jogja-NETPAC Asian Film Festival (JAFF) in organizing the JAFF Market for the first time. Through this festival, we not only celebrate the remarkable achievements of Indonesian cinema but also recognize the exceptional potential of the nation’s children, especially Indonesian filmmakers, who continue to demonstrate their ability to compete on the global stage.
Indonesia currently has a dedicated Ministry of Culture responsible for promoting and preserving the nation’s cultural heritage. Its efforts are grounded in the Law of the Republic of Indonesia No. 5 of 2017 on the Promotion of Culture, which provides a comprehensive framework for upholding the noble values of national culture, celebrating cultural diversity, strengthening national identity, and fostering unity.
Furthermore, through Law No. 33 of 2009 on Film, the government reaffirms its commitment to advancing Indonesian cinema as a means of educating the nation, nurturing individual potential, and enhancing societal welfare.
President Prabowo Subianto, through the establishment of the Ministry of Culture, is committed to the crucial task of protecting, developing, utilizing, and fostering culture to build an Indonesian society that is politically sovereign, economically self-reliant, and culturally distinct. In this context, I hope that films will not only reflect the nation’s cultural identity but also serve as a powerful instrument of Indonesia’s cultural diplomacy on the global stage.
At the 19th edition of the festival this year, the JAFF Market is being held for the first time. The presence and active participation of over 100 national and international film companies highlight the significance of JAFF in the world of cinema—serving as an effective platform to promote the sustainable transformation of cinema in Indonesia, Asia, and globally.
I hope this potential in film can be further nurtured through the active participation of both national and international filmmakers. I also trust that JAFF will continue to serve as a catalyst for fostering collaboration and partnerships in the cinematic arts, paving the way for the emergence of new talents and innovative ideas that will enrich the landscape of Indonesian cinema.
On this occasion, I invite everyone to unite in strengthening strategic and collaborative efforts to advance the film ecosystem. Together, we can ensure it continues to inspire filmmakers, communities, and organizations, both in Indonesia and across the globe.
Wassalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh.
