Between Tension and Comedy; The Dynamic Duo Film Recipe (AGAK LAEN)
The film industry seems to be harking back to a decade ago when the horror genre dominated it. Today, horror films often draw on urban myths that strike a chord with viewers. Throughout cinema history, horror has consistently captured the public’s imagination, offering thrilling experiences that keep viewers on the edge of their seats.
Comedy, too, remains a beloved genre, always in demand. A notable example is the classic comedy film Warkop, revived as Warkop DKI Reborn in 2016, attracting 6.8 million viewers. More recently, the 2024 film Agak Laen, which merges horror and comedy, struck a chord with audiences, pulling in an impressive 9.1 million viewers. This successful blend of genres made it the second highest-grossing film in Indonesia, showcasing the appeal of combining humor with the thrills of horror.

Dipa Andika launched his career in the media industry and began laying the foundation for Imajinari in 2020. In 2012, he created Hahaha Corp, a talent management firm specializing in comedians. By 2022, Imajinari debuted its first film, selecting a work by its talent, Bene Dion, and bringing Ngeri-Ngeri Sedap to the screen.
Through Imajinari, Dipa’s vision is to create a space for original works and add new sparks to Indonesian cinema. This dedication has led to the release of Falling in Love Like in the Movies, Agak Laen, Harta Tahta Raisa, Kaka Boss, and LOVE UNLIKE IN K-DRAMAS
Muhadkly Acho

Muhadkly Acho, an Informatics Engineering graduate from UIN Jakarta, started his career through the StandUpIndo community and went on to become a regular at Metro TV’s Stand Up Comedy Show in 2012. After performing in numerous comedy films since 2014, Acho transitioned to roles behind the scenes, working as a comedy consultant for Milly & Mamet and Imperfect. In 2022, he wrote and directed his first film, Gara-gara Warisan. His latest film, AGAK LAEN, achieved a record as the highest-grossing Indonesian comedy with over 9 million viewers and brought him a Best Original Screenwriter nomination at the 2024 Indonesian Film Festival (FFI).
Bene Dion Rajagukguk

Bene Dion Rajagukguk, an Industrial Engineering graduate from UGM, launched his entertainment journey with Stand-Up Comedy Indonesia (SUCI) 3 in 2013. He transitioned into the film industry in 2015, starting as a screenwriter for Warkop DKI Reborn. His experience grew through multiple screenplays, and he soon earned directorial roles for several series and movies. His notable achievement, Ngeri-Ngeri Sedap (2022), was chosen to represent Indonesia at the 2023 Oscars for Best International Feature Film.

Alexander Matius is a film curator based in Jakarta and currently serves as the Programme Director for the Jogja-NETPAC Asian Film Festival. He manages content at Visinema while also running his home appliance business. From 2014 to 2016, he was the Manager at Kineforum, Jakarta's first alternative film screening space. He has also worked at Kinosaurus, a microcinema, and FLIX Cinema, a chain cinema while participating in various film screening programs at different events. Since 2018, he has further developed his expertise in film curation and exhibition management by attending workshops, including the Film Programming Workshop in Japan and the Philippines, the Art-House Cinema Workshop in Venice, and Berlinale Talents.
