Foreword by the Minister of Creative Economy / Head of the Creative Economy Agency of the Republic of Indonesia

It is a pleasure to join you in celebrating twenty years of the Jogja NETPAC Asian Film Festival and the second year of JAFF Market. These milestones reflect how a festival and a market can work together to generate meaningful creative impact while strengthening the creative economy. JAFF and JAFF Market stand as strong examples of how Indonesia’s creative spirit can drive both artistic expression and economic opportunity.

The film sector is one of the priority subsectors within the creative economy. Its growth contributes significantly to strengthening the national economy, job creation, and Indonesia’s global visibility. A strong film and screen industry not only elevates national pride but also enhances the attractiveness of Indonesia as a destination for investment and international collaboration.

The mission of JAFF and JAFF Market aligns closely with our agenda at the Ministry of Creative Economy. We are committed to strengthening creative economy value chains, from development to production and distribution. We encourage the growth of IP based financing and greater investment in Indonesian content, which will enable creators to scale their ideas and bring them to global markets. We also believe that film and other screen based content have the capacity to highlight Indonesia’s diversity and support wider creative growth.

JAFF Market holds a strategic position in this effort. It provides an essential platform that connects Indonesian filmmakers, animation studios, and content creators with regional and global markets. It also encourages more international productions to engage with Indonesia as a creative partner, contributing to the development of our creative economy sector.

To continue building this momentum, collaboration is key. We invite JAFF and JAFF Market, together with industry players, private sector partners, and our creative communities, to work hand in hand with the Ministry of Creative Economy.
