Thriving Children’s Programs on Day Two of JAFF 19

On the second day of JAFF 19, several special programs for children were scheduled for families to enjoy. In the morning, the Acting for Children workshop was held at the LPP building, introducing the fundamentals of acting to children in a fun and educational atmosphere. The workshop featured casting director Ibnu Gundul and actor Graciella Abigail (known for her roles in Miracle in Cell No. 7 and Habibie & Ainun 3). Children, both beginners and those with prior acting experience, excitedly participated in the class. The workshop aimed to boost children’s confidence, uncover their potential, and encourage  their imagination.

Adding to the excitement of the screening program was the Layar Anak Indonesiana.TV, featuring a selection of 5 short documentary films and 5 short fiction films. These curated works represent the cultural diversity of Indonesian children’s daily lives, offering authentic and inspiring stories.

Short documentary and short fiction are featured in Layar Anak Indonesiana program received positive responses and praised for being not only entertaining but also educational for audiences, especially for children. “It was fun and so exciting. The themes of  local beliefs and culture successfully captured the vastness of Indonesia,” said actress and film researcher Sekar Sari. One of her favorite films was Silogui by Yusril Ali Alfath. “I was thrilled to hear the various responses from the young audience in the studio during some of the more unconventional scenes,” she said. 

The screening of Layar Anak Indonesiana films is hoped to be the first step forward engaging audiences of increasingly diverse ages, “The hope is that through JAFF, films can take the lead. Programs like this have immense potential to embrace inclusivity,” Sekar added.
