Public Presentation VII: LSF
Implementing a Culture of Self-Censorship in the Film Community
This program underscores the pivotal role of the film community in promoting a culture of self-censorship. As the Indonesian film industry surges, digital platforms and streaming services become ubiquitous; this accessibility brings new challenges, requiring the film community to ensure that distributed material aligns with prevailing social and legal standards.
Self-censorship involves filmmakers, industry stakeholders, and audiences taking proactive steps to independently evaluate and regulate content, reducing reliance on formal censorship processes. By fostering awareness among filmmakers and related groups, LSF aims to encourage the creation of responsible, beneficial content that reflects societal values.
The program facilitates open dialogue between LSF and the film community. This dialogue is essential for better understanding existing regulations and limitations and working collectively towards safer and more conscientious content production.

Lembaga Sensor Film (LSF)
Lembaga Sensor Film (LSF) is a non-structural institution responsible for determining the distribution status of cinema films, television films, soap operas,
television shows, and advertisements in Indonesia. A movie or television show can only be released if it is declared “passed censorship” by LSF. LSF also holds the
same authority over movie advertisements, such as movie posters. In addition to granting censorship approval, the Film Censorship Board also determines the age
classification for the respective film’s audience.
