Synopsis
Sinopsis
An exploration of the excesses of traditional shackled laws and the sociocultural conditions behind them in Indonesia, Perempuan in Pasungan is a family drama about Fitria, a woman drowning in guilt over the death of her best friend, Marni, who is then put in shackles by her own parents for the sake of family tradition and honor.

Ismail Soebardjo
Ismail Soebardjo's journalistic roots catalyzed his directorial debut, with socially conscious films like "Binalnya Anak Muda," "Anak-Anak Buangan," and "Bercanda Dalam Duka." His prominence peaked with "Perempuan Dalam Pasungan," winning Best Picture and his first Best Director Citra Awards at the 1981 Indonesian Film Festival in Surabaya.
