Synopsis
Sinopsis
Yongky, a 10-year-old of Chinese-Indonesian heritage, lives a pampered yet emotionally deprived life. His father, Santoso, a 42-year-old doctor with deep military connections, is distant and authoritarian. Yongky’s disruptive behavior has alienated his friends and driven away numerous caregivers, except for Sri, a 38-year-old Javanese woman with a love-hate relationship with Yongky.
As the Soeharto military regime falls and the May 1998 riots impact the Chinese community, Santoso’s perspective on his ethnic identity crisis evolves, resulting in his dismissal of Sri. Yongky feels guilty, but during their farewell moment, a warm connection is formed. It’s in this emotional bond that Yongky finally hears his own heartbeat for the first time, signifying a newfound emotional awareness and self-connection.

Giovanni Rustanto
GIOVANNI RUSTANTO is an Indonesian director who has a professional background in graphic design and fashion art photography before pursuing his career in the film industry. His film inspirations come from his Chinese-Indonesian upbringing under a repressive country. He studied at Prague Film School and pursued a Master's Degree at FIOFA Ohrid Macedonia, a branch of FAMU where he was exposed to many magical realism films that criticizes authoritarian regimes.
His previous medium length short film, “Lily Of The Valley”, premiered in the Oscar-qualifying Urban World Film Festival then he established SINEMA 5, a creative company which focuses on genre explorations while nurturing local talents through international collaborations. His series project was selected to participate in Torino Film Lab NEXT TV Series. He was also the alumnus of the latest SGIFF’s Southeast Asian Film Lab and was awarded the MOST PROMISING PROJECT with his upcoming debut feature film.
