With the hope of getting a good education and guaranteeing her future with government support, Leni Haini attended the Indonesian athlete’s national training centre for nine years. She received nine gold and six silver medals in the late 1990s.
Leni founded a pre-school and a rowing school after she retired in order to provide the next generation in her village with pursuits that were advantageous to both her surroundings and themself. She wanted to ensure that they were not only focused on athletics but also on acquiring an education, so they wouldn’t encounter the same challenges that Leni did as an athlete.
