SYNOPSIS

Upon the death of his father, Panembahan Hanyokrowati, teenager Raden Mas Rangsang was given the title Sultan Agung Hanyakrakusuma. Sultan Agung had to unite all the leaders (adipatis) of the land of Java which had been dispersed by VOC’s politics led by Jan Pjeterszoon Coen (Hans de Kraker). On the other side, he had to let the love of his life, Lembayung, go and instead marrying a noble woman who he never had a feeling for. Sultan Agung’s wrath towards VOC peaked when he found out that VOC never fulfilled their trade agreement with Mataram and instead build a trade office in Batavia. He was the one who declared the Batavia War until JP Coen was dead and the fall of VOC’s fortress. Through the time of war, Sultan Agung had faced many traitorous acts. At the end of his life, he rebuilt the school he used to study in and preserved the traditions and works of Mataram culture.
