KAN LUME

Director

Kan Lumé is a multiple award winning filmmaker who received his Bachelor of Film and Television from Bond University in Australia (Hons), with a double major in Film. Besides being one of the most prolific filmmakers in Singapore, he has taught film in prestigious film schools such as NYU Tisch Asia, School of Audio Engineering, Singapore Polytechnic, Ngee Ann Polytechnic, and Makassar SEA Screen Academy. He was a speaker at TEDx, is an associate artist at Substation Home of the Arts, and has received commissions for his work from the German Embassy in Singapore, The National Gallery of Singapore, and the Asian Film Archive.

Kan Lumé’s debut feature film, The Art of Flirting, won Best ASEAN Feature at Malaysian Video Awards 2005. The second feature, Solos, won the Best Newcomer Award at Torino GLBT Film Festival. The third film, Dreams from the Third World, received the MovieMax Award at Cinema Digital Seoul 2008. Liberta picked up Special Mention at Cinema Digital Seoul 2012 and the NETPAC Award at Tripoli Film Festival 2013. The Naked DJ earned Kan his second NETPAC award for Best Asian Film at Jogja-Netpac Asian Film Festival 2014.

Kan Lume adalah filmmaker peraih berbagai penghargaan yang mendapatkan gelar Bachelor of Film and Television dari Bond University di Australia (Hons), dengan mayor ganda di Film. Selain jadi salah satu filmmaker yang menghasilkan banyak karya di Singapura, ia juga mengajar film di sekolah film yang prestisius seperti as NYU Tisch Asia, School of Audio Engineering, Singapore Polytechnic, Ngee Ann Polytechnic, dan Makassar SEA Screen Academy. Ia menjadi pembicara dalam TEDx, sebuah asosiasi artis di Substation Home of the Arts, dan telah mendapatkan pendanaan untuk karyanya dari Kedutaan Besar Jerman di Singapura, The National Gallery of Singapore, dan the Asian Film Archive.

HASSAN MUTHALIB

Author, Animator, Director

In a career spanning half a century, Hassan Muthalib has been a (self-taught) artist, designer, animator, writer and director. He has won local and international awards for his animation shorts, public service advertisements and documentaries, including directing Malaysia’s first animated feature. He is recognised as the Father of Malaysian animation, an Asian Animation Pioneer, and has most recently won the prestigious Independence Award. For his contributions to academia and the industry, he was conferred with an Honorary Masters in Creative Technology.

Hassan’s writings have been published by the British Film Institute, Cornell and Indiana University Press, Southeast Asia Research Journal, and Cahiers du Cinema, among others. His original research into the roots of Malaysian cinema has been published in Early Cinema in Asia(ed: Nick DeoCampo). He has written three books: Malaysian Cinema in a Bottle (in collaboration with NETPAC), The History of Malaysian Animation, and An Analysis of The Films of a Prominent Malaysian Film Director. Hassan has been on many international film festival juries, and curated animation programmes for festivals in Europe and Singapore. He has also been invited to lecture at many local and international universities. Hassan is currently a film critic and resource person for academia and the film industry.


Sepanjang setengah abad karirnya, Hassan Muthalib adalah seorang seniman (otodidak), desainer, pembuat animasi, penulis, dan sutradara. Ia telah memenangkan penghargaan baik nasional maupun internasional untuk animasi pendek, iklan layanan masyarakat, dan film dokumenter karyanya sendiri, termasuk saat ia menyutradarai animasi feature pertama produksi Malaysia. Ia dikenal sebagai Bapak Animasi Malaysia, seorang Pelopor Animasi Asia (Asian Animation Pioneer), dan baru-baru ini ini ia memenangkan Independence Award yang bergengsi. Atas kontribusinya di bidang akademis dan industri, ia dianugerahi Honorary Masters in Creative Technology.

Tulisan Hassan telah diterbitkan oleh British Film Institute, Cornell dan Indiana University Press, Southeast Asia Research Journal, dan Cahiers du Cinema. Penelitian orisinilnya terhadap akar keberadaan bioskop di Malaysia telah diterbitkan di Early Cinema Asia (dengan editor Nick DeoCampo). Makhfud Ikhwan

Author

Mahfud Ikhwan was born in Lamongan, 1980. He is an Indonesian Literature graduate of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM). He published his first novel, Ulid Tak Ingin Ke Malaysia, in 2009. His second novel, Kambing dan Hujan won Sayembara Novel DKJ 2014 and awarded as Best Work in the Novel Category from Badan Bahasa Departemen Pendidikan Nasional (Language Departement of National Education Ministry) in 2016. Dawuk, his third novel won Kusala Sastra Khatulistiwa 2017.

Besides writing fiction, Mahfud also published two non-fictions, both are anthologies titled Aku dan Film India Melawan Dunia (2017, film reviews, two volumes) and Dari Kekalahan ke Kematian (2018, soccer reviews).


MAHFUD IKHWAN lahir di Lamongan pada 1980. Lulusan Sastra Indonesia UGM, Mahfud nenerbitkan novel pertamanya Ulid Tak Ingin Ke Malaysia pada 2009. Novel keduanya, Kambing dan Hujan memenangkan Sayembara Novel DKJ tahun 2014 dan mendapat penghargaan karya terbaik di kategori novel dari Badan Bahasa Dep. Pendidikan Nasional pada 2016. Dawuk, novel ketiganya, memenangkan Kusala Sastra Khatulistiwa 2017.

Selain menulis fiksi, Mahfud juga menerbitkan dua buku nonfiksi, yaitu kumpulan ulasan film Aku dan Film India Melawan Dunia (2017, dua jilid) dan kumpulan tulisan sepakbola Dari Kekalahan ke Kematian (2018)
