Luminescence of Local Culture: Javanese in Horror Cinema

Horror is one of the most beloved topics for some Indonesians. Various films with the horror genre bring in millions of viewers. Horror films are also quite synonymous with Javanese culture. Cultural representations are raised through narratives and stories about pesugihan (dealing with demons/spirits for wealth), poverty, susuk (implanted talismans), revenge which also appear in the title selections, character names and regional discourse (location settings). This discussion will present speakers from across professions that are closely tied to Javanese culture in Indonesian cinema.
