SYNOPSIS


Jakarta, Monsoon season. Set in the house of a butcher in the riverside slum area of Ciliwung (the city’s main river). While the father is at work the children enjoy the moment. The shot was recorded a few months before the mass eviction of the area, part of the ongoing gentrification project with troublesome justification to make the city flood free

Jakarta, musim hujan. Bertempat di sebuah rumah milik tukang daging di pemukiman kumuh sungai Ciliwung (sungai utama kota ini), saat si ayah sedang bekerja dan anak-anak sedang menikmati suasana. Pengambilan gambar dilakukan beberapa bulan sebelum terjadi penggusuran di kawasan itu. Hal ini merupakan bagian dari proyek gentrifikasi yang sedang berlangsung, dengan dasar alasan yang menyusahkan, demi membuat kota ini bebas banjir.

Aryo Danusiri

Aryo Danusiri is video artist and anthropologist born in Jakarta in 1973. His works have been exploring the mobilities of keywords, violence and memory in reconfiguring political and social landscape of post-authoritarian Indonesian 1998. Those works have been exhibited both in theater and gallery settings including (selected) Yamagata “New Asia Current”, HKW Berlin, Camera Austria, Ethnographic Terminalia Toronto, Mead Festival NYC and 2014 Whitney Biennial.
His first feature length documentary, Playing Between Elephants was awarded “Movies That Matters for Best Human Rights Film” at Jakarta International Film Festival 2007 and “Best Documentary” at Brussels Independent IFF. At present, he is completing his Ph.D. in Social Anthropology program, with a secondary field in Critical Media Practice at Harvard University. He has been a fellow at Sensory Ethnography Lab (SEL) as well as Film Study Center at Harvard. Lines is his current project, exploring the experience of drifting along three urban forms: road, rail and river. It engages with issues of infrastructure, climate change and labor.

Aryo Danusiri adalah seorang video artist dan antropolog yang lahir di Jakarta pada tahun 1973. Karya-karyanya berkisah seputar mobilitas kata kunci, kekerasan, dan memori dalam menata ulang lanskap politik dan sosial Indonesia pasca pemerintahan otoriter di tahun 1998. Karya-karya tersebut telah dipamerkan baik di teater dan galeri termasuk (terpilih) di Yamagata “New Asia Current”, HKW Berlin, Camera Austria, Ethnographic Terminalia Toronto, Mead Festival NYC and 2014 Whitney Biennial.

Film dokumenter feature pertamanya, Playing Between Elephants, dianugerahi penghargaan Movies That Matters for Best Human Rights Film di Jakarta International FIlm Festival 2007 dan Best Documentary (Film Dokumenter Terbaik) di Brussels Independent IFF. Saat ini, ia sedang menyelesaikan studi untuk meraih gelar Ph. D. pada program Social Anthropology serta Critical Media Practice di Harvard University. Ia menjadi anggota Sensory Ethnography Lab (SEL) dan juga Film Study Center di Harvard. Lines adalah proyek yang sedang ia kerjakan sekarang, tentang pengalaman saat mengikuti tiga bentuk urban: jalan, rel, dan sungai. Proyek ini mengangkat isu infrastruktur, perubahan iklim, dan tenaga kerja.
