Programmer

Paolo Bertolin is a festival programmer, film writer, and producer equally splitting his time between Asia and Europe. He recently joined the selection committee of the Cannes’ Directors’ Fortnight and holds a position as Artistic Consultant for the Open Doors platform of the Locarno Festival. For the past ten years, he served as a member of the selection committee first, and then as regional consultant for the Venice Film Festival, covering such diverse territories as South East Asia, the Indian subcontinent, Oceania, Turkey and South Korea. He worked for several international festivals and institutions, including IFFRotterdam, Doha Film Institute, Udine Far East Film Festival, Nyon Visions du Réel, Cannes’ Critics’ Week, Mumbai IFF, Beijing IFF, Hanoi iFF, IFFBratislava. He has production credits in Phan Dang Di’s Big Father, Small Father and Other Stories (Vietnam, 2015), Lav Diaz’ A Lullaby to the Sorrowful Mystery (Philippines, 2016), and Amit Dutta’s Chitrashala (India, 2015), all entries in the Berlinale Competition.

Manager of Locarno Pro

Sarah is currently manager of Locarno Pro and Deputy Head for the Open Doors program. Locarno Pro is the newly created label at Locarno Festival reuniting all activities and services dedicated to film industry professionals in Locarno.

Among the initiatives of Locarno Pro, the Open Doors program aims to facilitate the making and circulation of films from the global South and East, strengthening the connection between the local professionals and the international industry.

Open Doors is dedicating its next three editions (2019-2021) to South East Asia (Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Thailand, Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia) and Mongolia. The program comprises three parallel and complementary initiatives that take place during the Locarno Pro days: the co-production platform for projects in development Open Doors Hub, the Open Doors producers training Lab and the Open Doors Screenings.

Vivian Idris, some of us know her through the movies she starred in, such as Radit & Jani (2008) and Pintu Terlarang (2009). However, behind the scenes, Vivian Idris is more active as a producer and also director of documentaries which focuses on local wisdom, namely Torajamelo, Weaving Compassion in Toraja (2016) that tells us the efforts to improve the welfare of Toraja Tenun (traditional technique of weaving) artists and the journey to reach self-supporting strings dream.

Besides producing documentaries, Vivian Idris has been participating as a judge in some local movie festivals and competitions, such as being the Judge Panel for Producer in L.A. Lights Indiefest (2009-2011), judge for documentary competition Festival Film Indonesia (2011 & 2014), documentary competition XXI Short Film Festival (2012 & 2015), Festival Film Dokumenter (2013, 2017, 2018), ACFFest (Anti-Corruption Film Festival) in 2014, and many more.

Vivian Idris as well as her colleagues in Kalyana Shira Foundation are also the ones who initiated the first international children film festival in Indonesia (KidsFest) and Project Change!, a workshop masterclass which facilitates and produces documentaries with women in Indonesia as its main issue.

Saffira Permata Sari or Rara, was born in Jakarta, March 19 1995. She was graduated from SMAN 3 Jakarta then continued to study Communication Studies at Universitas Brawijaya before deciding to swim in a pool of cinematography for she realized that watching films had been her most favorite thing to do since she was a little kid. Currently she is working for a crowdfunding platform called Kitabisa.com, the biggest crowdfunding platform in Indonesia. Rara has successfully connected so many NGOs and companies to hand in hand spreading good causes of kindness.
