Synopsis

Sinopsis

Firman, a closeted gay actor in Indonesia, navigates the delicate balance of hiding his true identity while being interviewed for his latest film with co-star Ayas. Tensions rise when the conversation shifts to allegations of sexual harassment by their co-star, Joni, against Kenny, a trans makeup artist who worked in the film and also happens to be Firman’s close friend.

As Firman’s manager warns that standing up for Kenny could expose his secret, Firman is torn between preserving his carefully crafted “straight” image and defending a fellow queer individual. Which path will he choose?

Kurnia Alexander

Kurnia Alexander’s passion for filmmaking began through renting VCDs as a child. Now, mentored by Gina S. Noer and Salman Aristo, prominent figures in Indonesian cinema, his dream is slowly turning into reality.

His film "Closeting" has been showcased at festivals like JFW, JAFF, 100% Manusia, and many more, earning a Piala Maya nomination. His follow-up, "Departures" was screened at the Bangalore Queer Film Festival, while his latest film "In the Words of Firman" will have its international premiere at Madrid’s 29th LGBTI+ Film Festival.

Through his work, Kurnia tries to amplify the struggles of underdogs, aiming for dignity and humanity.
