SYNOPSIS


Shane and Pich had intimate relationship. At one point, they break up and continue living their own lives. Shane gets married with a woman. He has a daughter but she dies tragically.

Pich moves to Bangkok and becomes a floral arranger. He suddenly learns that he has terminal cancer. To heal himself spiritually, Pitch dedicates the time in making Bai Sri, traditional Thai ornament made of banana leaves and flowers used in Thai ceremony.

Pitch returns to his hometown. He meets Shane again. They try to heal wounds of their past, but Pich’s illness get worse. Pich quietly disappear from Shane’s life.

Shane becomes a Buddhist monk and follows the senior monk to the forest at the border of Thailand and Cambodia. At the graveyard, he encounters Pich again in another form.

Shane dan Pich memiliki hubungan yang mesra. Pada satu titik, mereka berpisah dan melanjutkan hidup masing-masing. Shane menikah dengan seorang wanita. Ia memiliki seorang anak perempuan yang meninggal dengan tragis.

Pich pindah ke Bangkok dan menjadi pembuat karangan bunga. Ia kemudian mengetahui bahwa ternyata ia mengidap penyakit kanker yang tidak dapat disembuhkan. Untuk menyembuhkan diri secara spiritual, Pitch mendedikasikan waktunya untuk membuat Bai Sri, ornamen tradisional yang terbuat dari daun pisang dan bunga-bunga, yang biasa digunakan pada upacara tradisional Thailand.

Pitch kembali ke kampung halamannya. Ia bertemu lagi dengan Shane. Mereka mencoba menyembuhkan luka lama, tetapi penyakit Pich semakin memburuk. Pich diam-diam menghilang dari kehidupan Shane.

Shane menjadi seorang biksu dan mengikuti para biksu senior ke hutan di perbatasan Thailand dan Kamboja. Di sebuah makam, ia bertemu lagi dengan Pich dalam rupa yang berbeda.

Anucha Boonyawatana

Anucha Boonyawatana was born in Nakhon Phanom, Thailand in 1981. Anucha’s works focus on themes of sexual identity. Anucha has previously written and directed Down The River (2004), Love Audition (2008), and Erotic Fragments No. 1, 2, 3 (2012) which the latter one competed at Berlinale Shorts at Berlin International Film Festival 2012. In 2015, Anucha’s first feature film The Blue Hour was screened at Panorama section of Berlin International Film Festival and many festival around the world such as Hong Kong International Film Festival, Seattle International Film Festival, Taipei Film Festival, etc

Malila: The Farewell Flower is Anucha’s second feature film, which won Kim Ji-Seok Award from Busan International Film Festival 2017, NETPAC Award from Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival 2017, Best Director from Singapore International Film Festival 2017, Best Director from International Film Festival of Kerala 2017. The film is nominated for The Ingmar Bergman International Debut Award at Goteborg Film Festival 2018 and is screened in many film festivals such as Black Movie Geneva International Independent Film Festival, Vilnius International Film Festival, etc.

Anucha Boonyawatana lahir di Nakhon Phanom, Thailand pada tahun 1981. Karya-karya Anucha fokus pada tema-tema seputar identitas seksual. Sebelumnya, Anucha telah menulis dan menyutradarai Down The River (2004), Love Audition (2008), dan Erotic Fragments No. 1, 2, 3 (2012) yang bersaing dalam Berlinale Shorts pada Berlin International Film Festival 2012.
