SYNOPSIS


Fajar Merah (21 years old) is the son of Wiji Thukul – a poets and human rights activist who was ‘made to disappeared’ in 1998 by The Soeharto Regime. Together with ‘Merah Bercerita’, a band established at 2010, and supported by his family, he tries to bring back his father’s poems to life, covers them with music notations and creates a music album. In a dynamic background of 2014 Presidential Election, 16 years after the 1998 tragedy, Fajar and family develops a new hope on one candidate; Joko Widodo, to solve some Human Rights Violation cases, to find Wiji Thukul and other victims.

Fajar Merah (21 Tahun) putra Wiji Thukul – seorang sastrawan dan aktivis HAM yang “dihilangkan” pada tahun 1998 oleh Rezim Presiden Soeharto. Bersama band Merah  Bercerita yang dibentuknya sejak tahun 2010 dan didukung oleh keluarganya, ia mencoba menghidupkan kembali puisi-puisi Ayahnya, membalutnya ke dalam alunan nada dan merekamnya dalam sebuah album. Ditengah dinamika Pemilihan Presiden 2014, setelah 16 tahun tragedi 98 berlalu. Timbul harapan baru bagi Fajar Merah dan keluarganya kepada calon Presiden Joko Widodo untuk dapat menyelesaikan kasus-kasus pelanggaran HAM, menemukan Wiji Thukul dan korban penghilangan paksa lainnya.

Yuda Kurniawan was born in Manggarai, NTT. He received his bachelor degree on Communication Studies. He frequently made documentaries with many issues in various regions across Indonesia. “The Ballads of Cinema Lovers” (2017), his documentary feature who has been nominated for best feature documentary at Indonesian Film Festival 2017 and official selection at Jogja Netpac Asian Film Festival, Yogyakarta Documentary Film Festival, Singapore International Film Festival 2017 and competition in Asian Film Festival, Barcelona 2018. “The Song of Grassroots” his latest feature documentary who has been World Premiere and documentary competition in 23rd Busan International Film Festival 2018, Nominee for Best Feature Documentary in 38th Indonesian Film Festival and Asian Feature Competition in 13th Jogja-Netpac Asian Festival 2018.

Yuda Kurniawan lahir di Manggarai, NTT. Ia sering mengerjakan dokumenter di berbagai wilayah di Indonesia dengan berbagai isu. Tahun 2017 dokumenter panjangnya yang berjudul “Balada Bala Sinema”, mendapatkan nominasi untuk dokumenter panjang terbaik Festival Film Indonesia 2017, dan telah diputar diberbagai festival film, antara lain: Jogja Netpac Asian Film Festival, Festival Film Dokumenter Yogyakarta, Singapore International Film Festival 2017 dan berkompetisi di Asian Film Festival, Barcelona 2018. Dokumenter panjang terbarunya yang berjudul “Nyanyian Akar Rumput” World premiere dan berkompetisi di 23rd Busan International Film Festival 2018, menjadi nominasi dokumenter panjang terbaik di Festival Film Indonesia 2018 dan berkompetisi dalam Asian Feature di 13th Jogja-Netpac Asian Film Festival 2018.
