Asarela Orchidia Dewi is an Indonesian filmmaker and visual artist who’s currently living in Berlin. They received a Bachelor’s Degree in Communication Design from the University of Applied Science Berlin. Due to their nomadic life as a child and their gender identity, the experience and feelings of alienation in various facets become Asarela’s main inspiration.Through unconventional approaches, their work often deals with the topic of LGBTQ+, asian diasporic perspective and intergenerational dialogues. Moving fluidly between film, visual installation, and performance art, Asarela is continuously experimenting different forms of visual expression. Since 2017 Asarela is a member of Soydivision, a contemporary art collective based in Berlin.
